#ThisTimeImVoting Campaign: the EU needs YOU!

Join YES Forum to raise awareness and improve political participation in May 2019!

In preparation for the European Parliament elections (23-26 May 2019), the European Parliament is putting a focus on encouraging young citizens to have their voices heard. But rather than only a “traditional” top-down media campaign, this time it is seeking your help as well.

As a citizen or an organisation, you can simply join the #ThisTimeImVoting Campaign here to get involved anyway you want, and spread the word about the upcoming elections at your own level. To empower them, participants get regular updates but also more concrete perks: ready-to-use Social Media visuals, posters, flyers, targetted infosheets …

YES Forum is combining efforts with the European Parliament this campaign: Why not joining us as well?

Renewed EU Youth Strategy – 2019-2027

In November, the Council of the EU adopted several crucial texts in the field of youth, including a Resolution on the new EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027.

The EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 is expected to go further than the previous one: it will especially develop its cross-sectoral approach by addressing the needs of young people in other EU policy areas, and includes 11 Youth Goals.

Following the Commission proposal for a renewed Youth Strategy in May, the Council approved its main novelties:

  • A new EU Youth coordinator to channel voices of young people in the Commission itself,
  • A renewed EU Youth Dialogue to take youth concerns better into account and ensure wider outreach, including through innovative formats;
  • Monitoring of EU spending for youth in main funding programmes;
  • An agenda for youth work to further improve its quality, innovation and recognition and to allow other sectors to capitalise on the potential of non-formal learning;
  • A clearer link between EU youth policy implementation and related programme activities in Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.

On the same day, the Council adopted Conclusions on the role of youth work in the context of migration and refugee matters, and reached a partial agreement on a Regulation on the European Solidarity Corps 2021-2027 and a Regulation on the Erasmus+ programme 2021-2027.

"What Europe does for me": A new website before the 2019 EU elections

As part of its efforts to promote the 2019 EU elections, the European Parliament launched a new multi-lingual, interactive website to help European citizens understanding the concrete impact of the EU on their life.

Users can easily find specific information about what the EU does for their region, their profession or their favourite pastime. It aims at giving concrete, relevant and targetted information to EU citizens, with 1400 notes on EU regions and cities, 400 notes on citizens and social groups, and many briefings on EU policies with a focus on public opinion and citizens’ concerns and expectations.

Information is a right, and an essential tool to encourage voting in the May 2019 EU elections! Have a look there and share it with your own audience.

Interim evaluation of the EACEA

Originally planned in mid-2018, a public consultation on the EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) will soon open.

The replies submitted through the public consultation will feed into the European Commission’s evaluation of the EACEA for the period 2015-2017, which will in turn impact future changes made to how the EACEA works.

All interested stakeholders can take part in the consultation, and among them beneficiaries of grants directly managed by the EACEA. Check here for the consultation’s start.

YES Forum Events & Activities in 2019

To help the network prepare for next year, a "YES Forum 2019 Calendar" is now online.

It gives an overview of the main events planned next year, with dates and locations when already available. Check it out on our website!

Save the Date! PROMISE Final Conference, Manchester, 8-9 April

On 8-9 April in Manchester, YES Forum and its partners in the research field from will organise the Final Conference of the EU youth research project PROMISE.

Since 2016, the H2020 PROMISE research project (www.promise.manchester.ac.uk) has investigated how young people in ‘conflict’ with society are nevertheless engaged and get involved to foster social change.

Join the Final Conference to learn more about PROMISE's conclusions, to get more insight into one of its 22 ethnographic case studies, discuss all these results and build a stronger link between the youth and research fields through the YES Forum! More information here.

YourEP Project: Challenge completed! YES Forum 2018 Policy Event, Brussels, 21-22 November

On 21-22 November in Brussels, the YourEP Project was the star of YES Forum’s Policy Event.

Its participants proudly presented their success to more than 50 guests and discussed YourEP’ results: concrete tips to make more inclusive political simulations. An opportunity to stay on course and keep developing accessible political education across Europe!

In addition, YES Forum members met European Parliament and Commission representatives in order to discuss their more recent initiatives towards youth, and how to make them more accessible: the European Youth Event, DiscoverEU and the #ThisTimeImVoting campaign.

For a summary and all information on YourEP’s lessons for inclusive political education, check our Report here!

YourEP Project: Final Publication - "Sésame, Ouvre-toi!"

The YourEP project, led by YES Forum and 9 members and partners, published its second and final outcome.

“Open Sesame!” is the motto of these Recommendations, providing short & targeted solutions to foster Social Inclusion in political education, and focusing on one example: “Unleashing the full potential of Political Simulations”!

Concluding the entire project, this publication is entirely based on our “YourEP Experiment”: diverse young people themselves & social workers designed their simulation of the European Parliament to explore ways of making it as inclusive and accessible as possible. Fore more information, please ckeck the project's dedicated website.

“Promising Contexts for Youth Involvement” – PROMISE 2nd EPN Meeting, Brussels: Report available!

On 21 November in Brussels, YES Forum and researchers from the EU youth research project PROMISE met EU stakeholders, including the European Parliament and Commission, to present their results.

Since 2016, H2020 PROMISE has explored young people’s role in shaping society by focusing on how conflicted youth actually present opportunities for positive social change across Europe. Check the Report for some highlights.

And stay tuned: the consortium will soon publish its key messages on how to better enable such youth-led positive social change!

DIVE 3rd Partners Meeting, 2-4 November, Cagliari

The DIVE project (Diversity in Pan-European Networks) held its third Partners Meeting in Cagliari on 2-4 November.

Through DIVE, YES Forum and its member Internationaler Bund are supporting the European youth networks JEF Europe (Young European Federalists), ESN International (Erasmus Student Network) and AEGEE Europe (European Students' Forum) with its expertise in view of making their sections more inclusive towards disadvantaged young people.

YES Forum’s experience contributed to the reflections on the next steps of the project. A last training for local volunteers from these organisations will soon help them exploring ways to open to a broader audience. Afterward, several concrete tools will be provided to local sections from JEF Europe, ESN & AEGEE to broaden these efforts to their whole networks. More information here!
