A wonderful group of young people from Sweden, Romania, Italy, UK, Netherlands, and Germany came together between 13th and 19th of July 2015, in Milcoveni, Romania, for the 'Young People United in Diversity’ youth exchange co-funded by Erasmus+.
Based on an idea of young people the YES Forum’s members work with, the project aimed to help the participants develop intercultural competencies and promote tolerance towards people from different cultural backgrounds. The theme of the exchange was European citizenship.
Film-making was the methodology used to facilitate the young participants’ understanding and exploration of European citizenship through their own identities. With the help of the partners from the Social Art Association, they learned how to write a script, use professional filming equipment, and also gained insight into acting techniques.
Throughout the week, with ice-breaking games, team-building exercises, and intercultural activities, the young people developed greater mutual understanding and respect for those from different countries and different cultures. The feedback from the participants includes statements like “it was the best experience of my life” and “I didn’t expect that a particular event or trip could impact my life so greatly”.
