On 18-20 March, the YES Forum participated at the second YO!Fest preparatory meeting in Strasbourg. The YO!Fest partners came together to finalise the work on the thematic ‘hubs' at the European Youth Event (EYE) on 20-21 May 2016.

Following the first YO!Fest preparatory meeting in October last year, it was decided to cluster the activities the YO!Fest partner organisations will implement at the EYE around 6 thematic hubs. These are the EYE’s 5 main themes plus an additional hub dedicated to health and well-being.

The YES Forum will bring a group of 36 participants to the EYE2016. Its young participants came up with an exciting activity which they will also implement at the EYE in the ‘Apathy or Participation: Agenda for a Vibrant Democracy’ hub. It is called ‘Fakebook’, an interactive workshop aimed at discovering and challenging the participants’ own biases and stereotypes.

During the 2,5 days in Strasbourg we spend a considerable portion of time working in hub groups to agree on the space and time allocation for each activity proposed, design the hub in terms of layout, decoration, and furniture, and fill gaps in the programme with common activities.

Furthermore, we also got to know the volunteers at the YO!Fest, saw the space where the YO!Fest will be located, and voted for the bands that could play at the EYE. Part of the Emerging Bands contest, an open call was sent out targeted at young bands interested in performing at the EYE.

As the European Parliament’s main partner for the EYE2016, the European Youth Forum organises  the YO!Fest: a political youth-led festival that mixes, political debates and workshops with live music and artistic performances. During the EYE, 8000 young people will gather from all over Europe to meet with their peers, policy-makers and high-level speakers to exchange ideas on youth-related issues and debate under the motto “Together we can make a change”.

The YES Forum looks forward to meet you, so drop by the ‘Apathy or Participation: Agenda for a Vibrant Democracy’ hub and play with us ‘Fakebook’.
